When Growth Feels Wrong

Realigning So You Don't Win The Wrong Game

Growth is the goal. It's the default pursuit.

More income. More reach. More leverage.

But not all growth is good growth.

Sometimes, what looks like progress on paper feels like misalignment in real life.

You’re landing clients, but feel creatively flat. You’re hitting goals, but they don’t light you up anymore. And you’re no longer motivated to do the work.

That’s not failure. That’s a sign you need to make some changes. A sign that you’re building something that no longer matches who you’re becoming.

It’s ironic how people leave a job they hated only to build a business they grow to resent. A different kind of trap disguised as the road to freedom.

Growth isn’t always about scaling what’s working. And the worst-case scenario isn’t that you stay stuck, it’s that you continue building something that you no longer want.

Here are a few signs you’re on the wrong path:

  1. You feel low-key resentful of your own calendar.

  2. You’re pursuing work you no longer want to do.

  3. You’re afraid to slow down so things don’t break.

Here’s how to course-correct without burning everything down:

  1. Audit your energy: what drains you vs. what energises you?

  2. Revisit your goals: is the vision you’re chasing still yours or just an old default?

  3. Make one brave shift: what's the uncomfortable move you've been postponing, raising your prices, narrowing your focus, or walking away from work that no longer fits?

Mini Alignment Check:

  1. Write down what your business looks like today.

  2. Write down what your ideal business would look like.

  3. Circle the biggest mismatch, you’ll know it when you see it.

That’s your tension point. That’s where your next shift lives. Because growth that costs your alignment isn’t growth. It’s quiet self-betrayal dressed as ambition and discipline.

If something’s felt off lately, you don’t need to force it. You might just need to stop, zoom out, and realign.
