The Internet is Boring Now
Why Effortless Content is a Trap
The internet is becoming increasingly boring.
AI has flattened creativity, flooding our feeds with predictable content that looks and sounds the same. It’s efficient, but very little of it feels alive.
We’ve entered the age of frictionless content, and in the process, we’ve lost the edge, the nuance, and the soul of what makes a piece of content hit hard.
Even “authenticity” feels automated.
You scroll through your feed and can’t remember a single thing you saw 5 minutes ago. Not because it was bad. But because it was forgettable, average at best.
That’s the irony of the AI content boom. It’s made it easier to participate, but not easier to stand out. Everyone’s publishing more, but saying less.
AI might level the playing field in terms of production, but it doesn’t teach you how to develop good taste. It doesn’t help you cut through the noise.
Here’s how to flip the script:
1. Resist the urge to replicate. The best content isn’t “high-performing.” It’s honest. It’s specific. It’s human. Say the thing you actually think, even if it breaks the format.
2. Stop trying to sound smart. The goal isn’t to be impressive. It’s to be clear and useful to your audience.
3. Prioritise originality over output. If you're recycling familiar takes inside familiar structures, you're not standing out, you're reinforcing the noise. Slow down, think harder, and publish things you’d want to read twice.
4. Create friction on purpose. If everything you make is easy to consume and painless to scroll past, you're playing the wrong game. Create ideas that make people stop, think, or even disagree.
5. Study creators with taste. Pay less attention to people chasing the algorithm and more attention to people building timeless and distinct bodies of work.
You don’t break through by sounding “right”. You break through by giving yourself a chance to find your own voice.
Everything else is just noise dressed up as strategy.
