The Illusion of Influence
Why AI Can’t Build the Trust Your Brand Needs
When I first started using AI, I spent hours training it on my writing style.
But hundreds of hours later, I decided I’m better off without it.
Sure, it’s easier than starting from scratch and it’s great at articulating certain ideas, but it does so in terrible style.
It plays all the right notes, but it lacks the touch of a musician who can bring an instrument to life.
Simply put, AI has no personality.
You might be thinking: why do I care? I just need content to keep me visible.
In which case, you’re completely missing the point. Being visible means nothing without being trusted and respected for your ideas.
Visibility alone doesn’t build influence.
This is especially true for expert-led businesses where clients pay for your thinking and your judgement.
Even if you own a cleaning business or a laundromat, if you’re posting the same bland content everyone else is posting, you might as well not post anything.
If you’re not a good writer, marketer, or creative person, the best thing you can do is admit that and outsource it to an expert.
But if you believe you are the right person for that job, then act like it. Think for yourself, sharpen your skills, and get really good at articulating your thoughts and ideas. Because that’s what it takes.
The alternative?
Join the majority of the deadbeats who have outsourced their thinking and their personality to AI, and watch your business struggle in the next few years.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t use AI.
It’s great for brainstorming, proofreading, and pointing out flaws in your work. But don’t take everything it says for granted.
Why’s this important?
Because your business depends on your ability to build influence and trust in your market. And to do that, you have to stand out from your competitors.
People can sense when something lacks a human touch.
AI might get you a burst of engagement, but when every post sounds the same, it erodes the very thing your brand depends on: trust.
Trust is built when people feel your thinking, not just see your content.
It’s in the stories you share, the convictions you stand for, and the unique perspective only you can bring. AI can’t replicate that, because it doesn’t believe in anything.
So, while your competitors chase the illusion of influence, you’ll stand out simply by refusing to play that game.
If you want to build real influence, create the content you wish existed, and use AI to support you, not to replace you.
Until next time, keep creating!
