The Common Marketing Trap

How to Avoid it and Save Your business

There's a common and recurring marketing mistake that I see all the time.

Itโ€™s a costly mistake that can easily drain your resources and leave you feeling frustrated and overwhelmed.

In todayโ€™s letter, Iโ€™m going to show you how to avoid this mistake (or fix it) and how to simplify your marketing for better results.

The Common Mistake

Every time I audit a prospect's business, they're doing too much.

Every time I coach an ambitious entrepreneur, they're doing too much.

Theyโ€™re frustrated, overwhelmed, and overworked for no good reason.

Hate it or love it, there's an obvious lack of focus.

Whether it's maintaining a presence on every social media platform, running multiple ad campaigns simultaneously, or using every available marketing tool, this scattergun approach often leads to mediocre results.

How to Fix It

Every time I take a new project, I focus on eliminating everything that is unnecessary.

This includes channels, tools, and active paid campaigns.

I approach everything I do with a less-but-better mindset.

Here's exactly how I do it and how you can too:

Start by compiling a list of all the marketing channels you currently use. This comprehensive list will serve as the foundation for your audit.

Assess channel performance and alignment with your goals

Next, evaluate the performance of each channel. Look at metrics such as engagement rates, conversion rates, and ROI.

Identify which channels are delivering the best results and are most aligned with your business goals.

Determine which channels reach and engage your audience best

Consider the demographics and preferences of your target audience. Identify which channels are most effective in reaching and engaging them.

Evaluate the available resources for marketing

Assess your resources, including your team's time and skills, your marketing budget. Determine how these resources align with the needs of each marketing channel.

Consider the resource requirements of each channel

Finally, consider the resource requirements of each marketing channel. This will help you execute your marketing campaigns effectively within your resource constraints.

Prioritise the channels that show the highest potential for growth

Identify which channels are most aligned with your vision and have the greatest potential for growth.

Eliminate channels that are not delivering significant results

If a channel takes more time and effort than it generates in ROI, eliminate it. If itโ€™s not making you money, itโ€™s costing you money (or time).

Reallocate resources from the eliminated channels

Reallocate resources to your top-performing channels to improve overall performance even further.

Focus on optimising your strategies within your key channels

Refine your tactics in your chosen channels. Test different approaches, messages, and targeting to improve performance.

Scale your high-performing campaigns

Allocate more resources to successful campaigns. Increase ad spend, create more content, and expand reach in these channels.

Use data and analytics to refine your approach

Analyse your data regularly to understand your audience preferences.

Use it to refine your strategy, find new opportunities, and adapt to market changes in a timely manner.

You don't need to be everywhere at once.

Even if you think you do, do you have the resources for it?

A focused approach always generates better results.
