How to Attract High-Converting LinkedIn Leads

The Scattergun Method Vs. The Sniper Method

It’s no secret that LinkedIn is a powerful platform for generating inbound leads.

However, many marketers and entrepreneurs follow a generic approach and hope that inbound leads will magically fall into their laps.

In today’s letter, we’ll compare two different strategies for generating LinkedIn inbound leads so you can choose the right one for your business.

Let’s dive in!

The Common Strategy: The Scattergun

The Scattergun Method is the approach many marketers take, aiming to get as much attention as possible by casting a wide net.

This method often involves trying to attract a large following and hoping that some of these followers will turn into leads.

Pros:

  • Increases brand awareness and visibility.

  • Can attract a large audience quickly.

  • Straightforward and easy to apply.

Cons:

  • Attention gained is often superficial and fleeting.

  • Followers might not be the right target audience.

  • Conversion rates from unqualified leads are typically low.

While it can increase visibility, the Scattergun Method often leads to superficial engagement and low conversion rates, as the attention gained is not always from your ideal audience.

Optimal for:

Businesses with Broad Appeal: The Scattergun Method can be effective for businesses with broad target audiences or those looking to increase general brand awareness.

Short-term Campaigns: It can also work well for short-term campaigns where the goal is to generate buzz or attract attention quickly.

Limited Resources: For businesses with limited resources, the Scattergun Method might be a more feasible approach initially, as it requires less upfront research and planning.

The Superior Strategy: The Sniper

Imagine if you could attract high-quality leads with precision and accuracy. That's the essence of the Sniper Strategy.

Instead of trying to reach as many people as possible, this approach focuses on identifying your Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) and targeting them with tailored content and engagement.

Pros:

  • Focuses on quality over quantity, leading to higher engagement rates.

  • Builds meaningful connections with potential leads.

  • Demonstrates credibility and expertise, and builds trust.

Cons:

  • Requires more time and effort to research and identify the ICP.

  • Initial growth may be slower compared to the Scattergun Method.

  • Requires consistent and targeted content creation and engagement.

By connecting with your ICP on LinkedIn and sharing valuable and relevant content, you can build a network of qualified leads who are more likely to convert.

This method requires more effort and strategic planning but can lead to higher conversion rates and more meaningful connections.

It’s my recommended approach for everyone who sells a high-ticket service and has a clearly identified ICP within a specific niche.

The question you need to ask yourself is: How many ICP connections do I have in my LinkedIn network vs. non-ICP connections?

Aim for at least 70% ICP connections.

Optimal for:

Niche Businesses: The Sniper Strategy is particularly effective for businesses with a niche audience or specific target market. It allows for more targeted messaging.

Long-term Growth: It is also beneficial for businesses looking for long-term growth and sustainable engagement. It focuses on building meaningful connections.

Highly Competitive Markets: In highly competitive markets, the Sniper Strategy can help businesses stand out by offering hyper-personalised and relevant content to their audience.
